How did you become a wedding planner?

I’ve been doing weddings for over 15 years. I started off doing them as favors for family and friends. Being who I am, I just wanted to help take the stress away from people. One day, out of the blue, one of the guests came up and asked me to do their wedding. That’s basically how it started. I did one wedding and my business grew.

What is your process when you are hired to plan a wedding?

We are based in Louisiana but open to doing weddings nationwide. We are really hands on with the clients. I don’t take a whole lot of clients because I like to give them each personal attention. I let the client tell me their vision of the wedding and get a feel for the couple and then I do my best to tell their love story. I hold their hand and walk them through every step of the way. I attend all the vendor meetings, schedule all of the appointments and I’m there with them until the end. My team of planners and I work to make sure we tackle all aspects of the wedding so everything runs smoothly.

How did you meet Chris Duhon and his fiance Andrea?

Chris Duhon is my nephew. I started doing his foundation events several years ago and when he decided to propose and get married they called me to do the wedding. I’ve known Andrea for 10 years and I loved her immediately.

What was the theme for Chris and Andrea’s wedding?

It was a fairytale wedding and we wanted to tell their love story. From the chapel, to Andrea arriving in a horse and carriage, to all of their friends and family being with them, love was in the air and you could see the emotion and passion throughout the day. Andrea always knew when she got married she wanted to get married at the Duke Chapel. They felt it was magical and that’s where they met and their love story started off. It was absolutely beautiful and a true fairytale.

What color palette did you use for the wedding?

The colors were champagne and mocha with a touch of glimmer and glitz. There were hundreds of candles and flowers everywhere. Andrea’s favorites are calla lilies, orchids and roses so we used those with a touch of orange and yellow and it turned out amazing.

What was the highlight of the day for you?

After all of the hard work and many hours, the highlight for me was seeing Andrea’s face when Amel Larrieux came out during the first dance and performed “Make Me Whole” live. When the wedding was over I wanted to re-do it all again. That’s the saddest part of my job. You become really close to your clients and you miss them when the wedding is over. All the guests came up to me and said, ‘This is the best wedding I’ve ever been to.’ I was walking around thinking I didn’t want it to end.
